This project is complete â€" sort of. My site is indeed operating now on a WordPress platform, and theoretically I have easy access to edit my pages in any way I want. I have run into some technical difficulties however. For instance, when I tried to edit a page, it made all kinds of changes I didn’t want it to make and “broke”the page. I received the following email today from the company that handled the conversion: “The problem of visually editing your page content, without causing the page to break, lies with the page template. I did indicate that the template is dated, with a lot of additional graphics embedded. If you ever switch to a more modern template that contains a whole lot less graphics internally you will be able to edit your content visually. The internal design of most of your pages work perfectly for static HTML type pages, but will require someone who is an HTML coder to add content to them. If the website owner wishes to do this, the editing will require some extra effort when editing anything visually.” Enough said. I’ve got my work cut out for me. Who is Bruce Ismay you may ask, and why is he the cause of the well-known tragedy, The Titanic? Bruce Ismay was the owner of the company, White Star Line who later became chairman for fourteen years. As a creator of other ships including the Olympic, The Titanic would have been his crowning achievement. He and his company spent over two years creating the ship. The first dreadful decision that Ismay made while creating the ship was limiting the number of lifeboats. Don’t waste time! Women and children were the first priority to be on the lifeboats but even though Ismay knew this, he took advantage of the situation. It was also discovered that the crew were least priority to enter the lifeboats it was the passengers who were supposed to go first. So, most of the ships men an d crew were left to die that night because there were not enough boats on the ship to save them. Sir Alfred Chalmers expressed, If the Titanic had carried fewer lifeboats, more people might have been saved, since the existing boats would have been filled to capacity instead of partially empty when the ship sank. The question that is left with people today is, if Bruce Ismay allowed more lifeboats on the ship, how many people would have still been alive? It was not just Ismays decision about how many lifeboats would be on the ship, but it was the rushed travel that caused the fatal crash. On June 1914, not only was Ismay questioned about the amount of lifeboats, but also the speed of the Titanic. Two surviving passengers from the ship, Elizabeth Lines and Emily Ryerson negated Ismays statement on trial from what the heard on the ship. On Saturday, April 13th, Ms. Lines caught a two-hour conversation between Bruce Ismay and Captain E.J. Smith. Ismay caught her attention when she heard him say, We made better today than we did yesterday, and we will make a better run tomorrow than we did today. By saying this, he meant that they would arrive one day earlier then they initially arranged. Every day, Ismay wanted the captain to continue a faster speed then the day before. In my opinion Shakespeare uses the play to show the hypocrisy of the status quo that held people from expressing their true identity. In â€Å"Autobiography of a Face,† Lucy Grealy expands this definition by exploring her own interpretation of beauty throughout the various stages of her life. As she examines life before her diagnosis, she mentions little about beauty as a factor in her development. Grealy accepted ideal of beauty, throughout her adolescence, concerns only the opposite of what appearance she could hope to achieve. This is a feeling that can be echoed through the hallways of every high school across America, but strikes particular chord in Grealy’s psyche. It is not until reaching college that she feels fully comfortable in her outward appearance. Sarah Lawrence was a campus where the students were wrapped up in asserting their own indivi duality and bizarre aesthetic, and Grealy thrived in this environment. Grealy’s personal definition of beauty cemented itself in individuality, as she grew unconcerned with the frivolous nature of the physical aspect of it. She concludes this beautifully by writing that society â€Å"tells us again and again that we can most be ourselves by acting and looking like someone else, only to leave our original faces behind to turn into ghosts that will inevitably resent and haunt us. DEFINITIONS Humanitarian logistics is a branch of logistics which specializes in organizing the delivery and warehousing of supplies during natural disasters or complex emergencies to the affected area and people (Source Wikkipedia) Humanitarian logistics  is an increasingly popular term that is being bandied about in the nonprofit world as a result of the many disasters the world has been experiencing and the coverage these disasters have been getting. KEY OBJECTIVES Some key objectives which must be taken into consideration. * To study and observe the activities of humanitarian logistic system and to apply it on the logistics operations * The system should be easily understandable so that everyone know the idea of logistics processes. World food program is world largest humanitarian organization and has very huge supply chain which is their basic need to fulfill their core objectives and fighting against the global hunger. With 2008 figures the WFP provided 3. 9 million ton food packages to the disasters victims per year and now in 2010 the figures are 5 million metric tons of food per year (source April 2010). WFP with the help of ocean vessels, trucks, train and air transport system they deliver their packages wherever its needed. The logistics network of WFP starts from the ports of North America, Europe and Asia. On average the WFP operating 59 aircraft, 41 ships, and 5100 trucks on any given day (Source April 2010). Being stronger hold over about 80 countries the WFP has a very wide-ranging local network and technical expertise to supervise large scale of logistics activities and operations. WFP is at the top of humanitarian logistics activities as confirmed by its management role in the logistics world. a. SHIPPING The large portion of the transportation of WFPs logistics is done through shipping and delivers the aid to the final destinations. Shipping is an important element of the logistics system of WFP operations. Nearly 250 ships are ready all the time whenever there is a need of aid in any part of the world and can deliver thousands of food and commodities on a very short notice (source March 2010) . WFP also possess specialized vessels which contains supply vessels, landing expertise and traveler ships. b. AVIATION WFP plays an important role in aviation side. As WFP is very responsive to the disaster and a lead player in the world of humanitarian logistics, if there is no road or when security situation obstruct the access to the final point, air transportation plays a vital role to transfer the aid and management personnel to the affected areas. WFP has a much managed humanitarian air services in Africa, Asia and America and because of UN humanitarian air services they provides passenger air transport services throughout the humanitarian community which is working in more than 200 locations globally (source March 2010). WFP furthermore assemble planned airlifts on behalf of other organizations for the transport of assistance shipments. More or less half of the goods and commodities are produced in the same country or where the disaster took place and the rest of the food is procured internationally by ships and deliver it to the respective ports. After that a major role plays here in supply chain where the combination of road, rail and river transport to deliver the food. WFP has nearly 5100 vehicles by which they can transport the goods at any time on the road. If in a situation where the local market is unable to provide the required transportation then WFP makes its own convoy.
